More alterations

After deciding where to position the porch I began to think about the rest of the building and the fact that I wanted another smaller side door instead of the one which came with the kit.
The side wall again had an opening to accommodate a larger door which was right in the middle between two windows...these little side doors are seen in many churches - sometimes they led into the vestry or just into the side of the church itself...

This is one side of the church with three windows
The wall has been cladded with fibreglass stone

This is the other side where I want to add the smaller side door....Again you can see that
I have filled in where the original door was and I've moved the window into that position.instead.

Customising the basic kit

I knew from the outset that although this kit was the size I wanted there would need be be some alterations to suit the idea that I had  in my head...the idea of a small country church.
With this kit there was the option of where to place the porch - it could be on the side or at the end...I have opted to put the porch at the end of the building leading to the smaller front door....

I've used fibreglass stone cladding for the walls

Here you can see the porch on the front wall showing the smaller doorway

Making the new doors

I had to start by making some changes to the basic kit.
Originally there was a very large door at the end of the building. I made this smaller by filling it in with foam board and polyfilla. In the photo the white area at the bottom is the original size of the opening.

In the beginning.....

Why a Church in Miniature...?

Maybe it's because the church represents all the big milestones in my life.
I fondly remember my local parish church which holds many happy memories of happy times in childhood spent at Sunday School and where later I became confirmed and went on to learn the guitar and to make many good friends.
It is where I was married and my three children were baptized.
And it is where I said my last 'goodbyes' to my dear, much loved parents....John and Margaret.
This tiny church is being made in memory of them....

I have used the Dollshouse Emporium Village Hall kit for this project. Being smaller in size than most of the other Church kits available, I felt it wouldn’t take up too much space yet it had most of the elements I wanted, including the bell tower and the arched doorways and windows. I just needed to make some small changes to the original design ....

Work began in December 2011....
